Capcom doesn't have much on display at this year's E3, but one thing that did manage to get the attention of Capcom fans was news of a long awaited Dead Rising 3 port to the PC. This was exciting due to the potential of having a Dead Rising 3 experience that would run at a comfortably smooth framerate. One of the more popular complaints of the previously released Xbox One version had been the lackluster consistency in framerate, which was upsetting for consumers who had purchased Dead Rising 3 at the console's launch. As time went on, Capcom progressively released a number of performance patches to address the issue of framerate spikes in addition to other graphical issues, but it was apparent that Dead Rising fans were still underwhelmed by the finished product.

Hopes of the revitalized Dead Rising 3 project were addressed today on a Capcom-hosted twitch stream, where a developer of the in-progress PC port stated that "when we (Capcom Vancouver) started the PC project we knew we werent gonna be able to guarantee anything above 30 frames per second." In a follow up to this statement, the developer reminded gamers that "we're not gonna stop you from uncapping the framerate, but we can't guarantee the experience." After being met with a divisive chatroom response, he concluded his comments by claiming "I really don't believe you're losing anything by playing at 30 frames per second."

Now, personally I agree with this last comment on a case by case basis. In Dead Rising 3, I believe that a 30 frames per second experience would be absolutely fine, assuming that it stays at a consistent framerate. Besides that, it is true that there are some games that benefit much more from a higher framerate than others. The first titles that come to my head would be games that are focused more around speed, such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Mario Kart 8. Due to the pacing of Dead Rising 3, I wouldn't feel like there would be much of an issue with a well executed 30 fps.

On the other hand, I do understand the exepectations of the PC gaming community. A good amount of multiplatform games which have a place on PC do manage to hit that 60 fps mark and still manage to look gorgeous, depending on how well the optimization to that platform is. This being said, it is going to be incredibly important to see that Capcom manages to follow through on the claim that this 30 fps looks great, as lowering a PC standard in this way is a risky endeavor for Capcom. Especially after the amount of attention they had just given the Resident Evil 4 HD port to PC.

All things put aside, Dead Rising 3 is still a pretty intense game, and disregarding all of these conflicting feelings, I am still very excited to play a smoother version of this game. I'd like to hear some feedback about your feelings regarding framerate. Does it matter to you? If so what are your personal preferences? Is Capcom damning the future of video games to a mostly 30 fps hell? Comment and lay it on me.

With Dead Rising 3 coming to PC, after they had said it wouldn't, I am going to wait until they most likely release the Dead Rising 3: "Insert Subtitle Here" version on the PS4.

Man, fuck Capcom lately. They used to make the best ports on PC with MT Framework and now they got it all backwards. I understand this project probably was never intended to come to PC in the first place and that's why they were fine with 30 fps but PC is all about options and the freedom to play with better visuals and a smoother framerate if your machine can handle it. Even if your machine can't handle it, you still have the choice to lower the visual quality to improve the fps or the other way around.

This is such a disappointment. I was ready to buy it day one but now I'll wait for a sale because I really want to play it but this kind of practice should not be supported.

This is just bullshit, I really don't care much about Dead Rising but, I understand that people would be frustrated with this. it's pretty easy to see the difference between 30 and 60fps, and there is a loss of quality, and fluidity in the animations yes.

It's basically they saying that they are unable (or don't want to) make a decent port so we will settle with a shitty port since it will sell anyway.

Well now I'm worried. This could very well turn out to be a shoddy port.

If it's 30 FPS, I will not buy it.

I still want the game. Just not nearly as much as when the announcement of a PC version came out. I have a brand spanking new pc and hope that this 30 fps lazy trend doesn't persist.

All them PC elitist out there just died a little but on the inside. A PC game that can't be proven to be much better than the Console port! It's like we're back in the late 90's again!

Dark Souls 2 runs at 60 fps on a decent pc, but it has weird issues at that framerate, less durability of weapons, faster enemies, its harder to parry, etc. If they are keeping it locked at 30 for gameplay reasons, that's ok, for me the important things are, is the game fun? and , is it a decent port?
