Subscriber News Roundup April banner

SUBSCRIBERS!!! Are you not entertained!?!?!?!?

Subscriber Night was fantastic on Monday. We didn't get responses from all of our Subscribers so the first few hours we did a semi Open Game Night. The night started out with a lonely Brad playing Urban Chaos: Riot Response (Xbox), a classic 4Player game. Nolan, Nick, and Brad then took turns causing chaos in Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox). Brad caused some destruction, while not paying attention to the objectives, in Red Faction II (Xbox). Nolan then showed off his awesome ball handling skillz in Katamari Damacy (PS2). Chris Davis took over for our first Subscriber chosen game from negativechosine which was Dead to Rights (Xbox). The oddly sexual and monotone voice acting in Maken X (Dreamcast) was controlled by Krispy thanks to ricesamajanai. The night was polished off by Nolan and Krispy playing a very modded Left 4 Dead 2 (PC) with teammates like Batman and Deadpool as per request from killjoy546. Check out the highlights for that once they go up. Did someone say Highlights? If something funny happens during the stream and you think it deserves a highlight please post the timestamp in the 4PN Highlight Requests forum thread here

If people want it there's really no problem. Even an ironic sale is a sale.

Ten bucks was really pushing it though.

I mean, it was stupid.. but stupidity sells too. Literally you just ran around as a goat doing whatever it was that came up. But hey, if someone's into that and you can make money, why not? Personally, not the type of game I like playing.. but they're fun to watch. I'm not gonna be like "IT DIDNT DESERVE TO MAKE MONEY" but it makes me wonder how things like this catch on. I almost feel like now, with the way things go viral but then die just as quickly, it's just all completely random and if you get lucky then good for you, ride it out.

I mean it may be on a whim but why should that change anyone's judgment of it. If it is fun then great get it, if its not they you don't have to buy it. If you don't put a point or goal in a game and people like it then they will make their own, a perfect example of this is the GTA series. The best moments I have had playing these games are usually screwing around with my friends doing something we decide to do that has nothing to do with what the developers designated as the goals or story.

totally fine with games made on a whim, because sure they might not have objectives or goals in mind but they sell well for a reason. They're really fun and that's at the core of what gaming is about, right?

Personally I feel that goat simulator is excellent. Not only do i love playing it I feel like it is one of my favorite games to watch due to the sheer stupidity of it and the laughs you can have at it. I mean its a goat simulator, you obviously aren't going to buy it to be serious about it. In my opinion games without reason are the best types of games because you can make your own reasons for them.

The developer actually said that this game was kind of modeled after tony hawks skate board in which you earn points for various stunts. Its a really fun game. Brings you back to the Zelda days in which you had no goal and no clear objective but yet it was super fun. These type of games are awsome but they just turn into cash machines for youtubers. But i feel like it will quickly die out quickly.

    CONTEST ENTRYYY~

For me, it only depends on the content of the game. Like if it's a game that's made on a whim and has nothing substantial to it, then I wouldn't care. But since a game like Goat Simulator has such potential for hilarious moments, then I am totally for it. If the guys who made Goat Simulator really followed the Simulator format, then the game would've been incredibly dull and mundane, thus not being a whole lot of fun.

I think we could look back at past games like Tokyo Jungle, about animal survival and completely entertaining to watch, which brought something new to the table. A game that was non linear and for a decent price on psn, it was definitely a "bang for your buck". You must be at least committed to Goat Simulator in the same way to experience every bit of fun playing as a goat. How many games like these are out there.

I'm still betting on Jager just having one of the crew PVP him in Dark Souls for a hour. Or some really British game that no one's ever head of because he's British.

As long as the game is entertaining to play and the player is taking something from the experience (even it it's just an outlet for killing time) then I say, 'that's awesome'. Who cares if it took years or minutes to make?

I mean... if it does well then good for the developer. It's great for them! Though I personally don't see a point. They're like viral videos, something stupid and fun that become really popular and then die down. They're great games just for messing around and being with silly friends, and even people who don't play games can play them!
